Gwinnett Rescue Cats

On Monday, June 16, Gwinnett County Police and Animal Control officials raided a home and found over thirty cats living in filthy conditions. There were multiple litters, and none of the cats had received proper medical attention. We were asked if we could help shelter, nurture, treat, and adopt out some of the cats. By the end of the day, three momma cats and seven kittens were settling into their new temporary home here at the clinic.

This is Emily (left with white body) and Charlotte (right, lying). They're sisters and between them they're nursing seven kittens from two different litters! Emily gave birth to five kittens -- four of whom survived -- but she has only two working teats, so Charlotte frequently nurses the kittens. There are two older kittens that Emily and Charlotte are also taking care of. No one is quite sure where Digger and Frogger came from, but they all seemed to get along so it was best to keep everyone together.

Interestingly, even though Charlotte has taken on the primary role of nursing the kittens, we don't know what happened to her own. No one is quite sure where her litter went. Perhaps this mystery is why Charlotte is very protective of all the kittens. She will keep a close, wary eye on anyone who she feels is wandering too close to the kittens. On many occasions when we have been changing litter or food she will come between us and the kittens to make sure nothing will harm them. Her devotion to the kittens is heartwarming!

This sweet gal is Anne and she is also a sister of Emily and Charlotte. She just gave birth to her own litter of kittens on July 6. Read about her story here.

Our goal is to find these cats and kittens life-long homes with people who will care for them. We will give them each needed medical care until we find those homes. The kittens should be available for adoption by the end of summer. Until then, you are welcome to stop by the clinic during business hours to visit with them.
